CULTURE MEDIUM MICROBIOLOGY

* CULTURE MEDIUM

DEFINITION - The food material or substance required from growing microorganisms in out side of the body is called CULTURE MEDIUM.


BASIC REQUIREMENT -

A. Water
B. Optimum temperature 
C. Nitrogen
D. Carbon
E. Mineral
F. Energy source ( food material )

CLASSIFICATION -

Based on physical status.
A. Solid Medium.
B. Semi solid Medium.
C. Liquid Medium.

A. Solid Medium - These are used for isolation of colonies growing on the medium. Agar is the most commonly used solid material agent .Agar is a Golden yellow granular powder prepared seaweeds. Not affected by the growth of bacteria.

B. Semi - solid Medium - Such medium are soft and are useful in demonstrating bacterial motility and separating motile or non motile bacteria .

C. Liquid Medium - These are used for bio- chemical test such as mortality test and sensitive test.

USED OF CULTURE MEDIUM

A. To indemnity the causes infection from the clinical sample .

B. To study the characteristics or properties of bacteria .

C. To prepare biological products like vaccine.
